Don’t start a blog in the midst of buying your first home. Lesson learned for moi, yeah?

With the stresses of closing the sale and furnishing this new place, my stomach decided it had ENOUGH. Acid disaster. So today we talk about STAYING ALKALINE. Yes, essential stuff.

It is healthier to be more on the alkaline side of the human pH range, just listen to what happens when you dip into acidic territory: your body will LEACH calcium from your bones to balance your internal pH. This is because calcium is an effective acid neutralizer – which brings me to my parallel point, that we need to get enough calcium every day, people. Eat your kale, try to stick to one cup of coffee, and don’t booze it up on the daily! More than 2 drinks a day = disaster.

SO back to pH! Those leafy greens that give you all that good calcium are also alkalizing, as are mineral-rich whole (fresh! unprocessed!) foods (whole grains, veggies, fruit), and foods containing high levels of potassium (dried fruit, legumes, avocados, bananas & cantaloupe).

While my problem was mostly stress-related, all those rushed meals and tomato-based dishes didn’t do much to help keep me in balance. Keeping these alkalizing foods in mind is important, as is taking time to eat mindfully, take deep breaths, and, if you can/want to, meditate a few times a week.
